What are the pro's and con's of some of the benchtop injection molders being marketed for hobbyists such as LNS Tech's 150A and Medium Machinery? Basically I'm in the market for a <$10k injection molding machine ideally with a 2 oz shot size.
Here is what I've researched so far; however my hands-on experience is zero at this point.
MediumMachinery.com
Pro's (in my mind)
- cost ~$3k
- 2 oz shot
- 600 F / 315 C
- max clamp pressure of 12 tons
- max injection pressure of 6.5 tons
- mold max size 8*8*4"
- air compressor powered hydraulic injection
Con's
- little or no control over rate of shot delivery
- no ability to inject along the part line
- no mold heater
- no reported max cycle rate, video timing shows just over 1 minute
LNS Tech model 150A
Pro's
- cost $1.5k
- mold max size 8*5*5"
- manual injection lets you feel what's happening
- can inject along the part line
- reports up to 3 cycles per minute
Con's
- small shot size 0.66 oz
- unknown clamping pressure (a vise is used to clamp molds)
- no ability to inject through the mold (Is this really a con?)
- low max temp 490 F / 250 C
- fatigue from injecting by hand using the lever arm over and over again
