Well I decided to try out the Tormach SuperFly Cutter on my G0704 and I'm glad I did! Decent MMR and most importantly to me - excellent finish!! I used a polished SEHT insert for aluminum.

DOC: .040, FR: 5ipm, 1800rpm for roughing and drop to DOC: .015 for a finish pass:

And it's COMPACT! The thing is tiny, but packs a punch.

I'm curious, what makes this fly cutter "super"? I've got a cheap flycutter and haven't been able to get anywhere near that kind of finish with it. Is it the insert?

The polished carbide insert does wonders on aluminum, I have yet to try the steel insert.

The steel insert works almost as well in aluminum.
