    Small Box

I have been able to make this box with a 1/4" Flat End Mill and a 1/8 round over.
I can use a jig to hold 3 boxes at once to mill out the pocket.

Now i'n milling out the lids for the box

Next I cut the lids using a miter saw .

The problem I'm having is how do I hold down this lid to mill off the bottom part. I can make a jig that holds one but trying to hold more than that is impossible using friction.

Any way to make a small vacuum hold down for under $100 or something that will work?

    Hello CosmicGlenn,

This is from a newbie still in the process of building my CNC router, so take this suggestion with a grain of salt.

I would suggest reversing your order of operations. First, mill off the top part like normal but mill holes for two registration pins on a line through the center of your board/boxes. Next, flip your board over and align the holes with two pins in your spoilboard. Mill the bottom of the boxes. You can either mill them out leaving some tabs that you cut out with your miter saw and sand off the stubs or do the full cut with the miter saw.

For better directions on double sided milling, check Shopbot's YouTube channel for a video that walks through the process.

    Hi Jonathlee
I found that pin idea very useful.I made a jig that holds 4 lids and pins hold the Jig. The only problem I got is there are no limit switches on my machine. So if it gets out of place then I have trouble lining the bit to exactly where it was.

    Hello CosmicGlenn,
    Here's how to re-register a jig.

If you want to make a parallel rule like Peter shows using, here is his instruction video for that:

I highly recommend his Youtube channel, CncNutz.
