    MORI SL1 SPINDLE

I'm doing a retro on a Mori Seiki SL1 1978 or 9 model. The machine has been sitting for 15 years. The spindle has not been used in that time, it feels smooth and quiet. The question is, do I leave it alone or do I take it apart for some grease? Can someone recommend a start up procedure to get it safely back up to speed. Thanks Don

If you take it apart to add grease, probably end up destroying the rear bearing. Run it slow and steadily increase speed. Put a dwell of about 10 minutes between each speed change. Start at 100 then 500, then every 500.

As Underthetire said is the way to go. I would also be running spindle in both directions forward 100 for 10 minutes then stop for 5, backwards for 10 and then stop for 5.
