    Stepping Speed questions

While looking to add CNC to a 3 in 1 I noticed the controllers have different Stepping Ratings or speeds. Some are at 50Khz, 125Khz, 200Khz, 2,000Khz yet the stepping motor controllers can only handle 200Khz ~ 300Khz.
I was looking at DDUM6V5.0 or PoKeys57CNC for USB or Ethernet using Mach3.
Is there somewhere that explains the stepping speed issues: Computer Controller - Stepping Motor Controller - Stepping Motor ?
    Thanks

    Re: Stepping Speed questions

The mentioned stepping ratings for the controllers are the maximum the controller can do.
If your stepping motor driver can handle a higher rating as the controller, then you can't over clock the stepping driver.
If your controller supports a higher speed then your driver, then you need to configure it such that it won't overrun the driver.
Next to that, you need to look at the maximum speed that your motor can do on the driver. This depends much on the supply voltage of the driver and the self inductance of the motor.
In most cases the motor inductance and the driver supply voltage are the limmiting factor for the maximum speed ( clock frequency ) that you can use.

    Re: Stepping Speed questions

If your using stepper motors, it's highly unlikely that you would need anything higher than 50Khz.
With 10x microstepping, you can run steppers at 1500 rpm at 50Khz. Most steppers have very little torque at that rpm range.
