I think my spindle drive is failing

I have a PCNC1100 Serial number 1141 I think. The machine is upgraded to a Series II.
Last week my spindle speeds were changing on there own at random.
It was late and needed my parts done so I started using M4 for a while instead of M3 and the symptoms went away and I finished my parts.
Today the condition returned and the spindle actually stopped running.

I shut everything down for a while and started it back up. Spindle started but the condition returned.
When the speed changes I can see it on the drive. I also think I can possibly hear a crackling sound coming from the drive.
Mach 3 is not aware of the spindle speed changes. Also, I am on mostly original parts on this machine except for the spindle drive upgrade which is original since its purchase.

I feel like it is the drive but do you know if it can be anything else?

    TIA

    howecnc,

I'd suggest taking power away from that ASAP! There's a good chance you could blow up the drive which could damage it beyond repair. Send it in to us for a free evaluation. tyler@iesrepairs is my email. I'll PM you my full contact info.
We fix it all! Give us a call at 855-437-3497.

I would look for a loose connection.

Yes, its just a good practice to check the screws that hold all the wires in the terminal blocks once a year. Doesn't hurt to unplug and reconnect the plugs either. All this doesn't take 5 min and can save a lot of headaches.
