Setting offsets for a left hand turning tool. Tormach SL15 w/Turret

    Hello CNCzone!

I'm a month in with my lathe and love it so far. This is my first time using a CNC lathe (except for a g-code class at the CC). I've been mostly messing around with the conversational and it has worked well for me so far. I need to make spherical shapes (a round knob for example) that requires a left hand cutter.

I know how to set the offsets (by method taught in the Tormach manual) for right hand. And setting X offset by taking a skim cut but a little confused on how I would set the Z offset for a LEFT hand tool (FWIW Tormach part number is MWLNL12-4C)

I'm still new to this and any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance for any info!!

I havn't done it but i would prob do something like this.

Take a skim cut with a RH tool and set 0... then switch to your LH tool and make a cut leaving like .25" or something. make sure to take a little cleanup cut on the back face and then don't move the Z. Then measure the width and set the LH z offset negative that number.

Here is a VERY SLOPPY scribble Maybe better way of doing it but that's just off the cuff.
