I recently got a very good deal on a Weike 6090 laser. Overall it was in good shape, but it was in an outside shed and full of mice that ate the wiring and the original software was missing so I just bought a Lightobject DSP to control it. I was thinking since I am replacing the electronics that I might just go ahead and upgrade the stepper motors to servos. Would that be a good idea? Would I gain much with extra speed?

I don't think it's a good idea to upgrade the motors.
Yes, Servo Motors is better, but it doesn't means that just change the motors, you will get extra speed.
the type of controller, the structure of guide rails and the stability of laser also affect the speed.
