Hello all,

I'm building my first machine. It will be a desktop sized build, built using mainly t-slot extrusions.

I just got the ball screw I purchased of ebay for the Z-axis (this one: KSS Ground ballscrew FBS0801 255L Stroke 180mm Pitch 1mm CNC Router NSK | eBay). I'm now stuck looking for a coupling between the ball screw shaft and the stepper (NEMA 17 sized on the Z-axis).

The ball screw shaft diameter is 4.5 mm, and I seem only to be able to find 4 mm and 5 mm. I do not have access to a lathe, so machining the shaft down to 4 mm is not an option. Are there any 4.5 mm couplings available, or is there any way of adapting a 5 mm coupling?

Looks like I was jumping the gun on posting this one, sorry. I thought I had searched exhaustively, but moments after posting, I found a coupling for the 4.5 mm shaft for some $30 on aliexpress.

You might also consider getting a 5mm coupling and use a strip of aluminum from a pop can as a spacer.
