Making good progress Keen! The overview of your Cylindrical Grinder was a good watch too.

Hi Lee - Yes Brown and Sharpe is a class act. I still remember seeing those words jump out at me from the tender column in our newspaper in 1985 I think.

BROWN & SHARPE CYLINDRICAL GRINDER ! I had to bid for it.

And when I won the bid, it was just luck that led me to its cabinet full of attachments outside the factory, disregarded, in the rain! No mention of it in the tender. The staff were even unaware of it !

    Hi Folks.

Getting near the end of the first production run now.

It has taken longer than planned as I had to interrupt the project with a run of 175 parts for a repeat client....bad timing!

Here is a video on spark eroding the Styli Tips.

Hi Dallas. Currently mainly communicating via my youtube channel threadexpress and email .

I have invented and developed other products through a LLC - some are selling worldwide.

But the Probe is currently still at the design/development stage ...and I try not to think of it in commercial terms too much until it is 100%.

Last I heard it was looking like January or February for production of beta units and commercial production some time after that. Keen may be bogged down with other paying work and that probably has top priority.

Re: NEW DESIGN CRASH RESISTANT LOW COST TOUCH PROBE

Thanks Guys. Happy new year to you too.

Yes I have been busy with contract work, and I have been off grid for a few days in the NZ mountains...just got back. I will do a update video soon with full details.

The RapidTurn spindle issue is a sobering reminder yet again not to rush the testing stage. My side by side tests showed 'precursor to issue' on some configurations, spotting this has allowed be to make further refinements.

Low cost touch probes are notoriously bad for long term reliability, and I have wanted to thoroughly understand all the reasons why this is so, and apply completely effective solutions. I will be open here and admit some aspects of this has been challenging. However I think I now have the breakthough combination, as the issue precursor tests are so far showing 100% results.

Thanks for your patience! I think we are getting close now. Cheers Keen

Amazing the things that turn up with long-term testing, even on relatively simple products, isn't it? I've been seeing this with my PDB and ATC. My personal machine has been running for years on a pre-production PDB, which I'm certain has seen FAR more use than any customer unit ever will, especially as it has been used for most of the testing on the ATC, which has certainly done well over 100,000 toolchanges. About once a year I find some very minor issue crop up that, while none have caused a functional problem yet, some of them clearly could given more time. With literally hundreds of parts in the ATC, I've seeing the same pattern there. Fortunately, none of these issues has been significant, but it's still nice to get them all worked out before the customer finds them.

Good testing, and good beta testing, are absolutely critical to the success of any quality product. Both are extremely difficult to achieve, as so few people have the first clue how to do it effectively.

    Regards,
    Ray L.

Thanks for that Ray. Yes it is a very time consuming journey. So many products are rushed to market with hidden unresolved issues that eventually cause big trouble.

There is always pressure to launch, short term commercial concerns are often at loggerheads with design prudence....life!
