    SHOPMASTER WARRANTY

There was some discussion about our warranty policy on another thread which sort of became an off-topic subject, so I thought I would start a new thread with the warranty as the subject.
Since we started in business in 1981, the warranty has evolved and changed over time. In the early years we were very generous, because the Chinese used to supply us with a certain number of free spare parts with each order, so handing them out upon customer request was no problem. However as we moved into the 90's, the Chinese became more sophisticated and began requiring payment for any spares, so our warranty changed to meet that situation and we then required customers to return any defective parts before we would send new ones. We still maintained a sort of informal arrangement and would often send out parts if the customer promised to return the old ones. However, the number of un-returned parts began to grow to an un-managable amount, because once customers got the new part, the return of the old one sort of ended up on the back burner. With over 17000 machines sold, it was no longer possible to have so many parts unaccounted for. So the next phase of the warranty became more strict and we required the return of the part prior to sending out any replacement. We did offer a compromise where we would sell them the new part and then refund the cost upon receipt of a defective part, which solved problems of customer downtime.
When we introduced the all CNC Patriot about 6 years ago, we also added a 1 year return policy, because we had found over the years that many buyers did not really understand how much there is to learn in the CNC world. That gave the customers plenty of time to learn without being pressured to either keep the machine or return it within a short time frame. The customer base has now moved to a younger and more tech savvy group, as the prior buyers, mostly baby boomers, are less and less in the market for long term hobby tools. So in 2016 we felt the the 1 year return policy was no longer necessary. We write our warranty in very plain terms that average guys can understand, so for anyone considering buying one of our machines, the advice is simple, read the warranty and understand it's terms. If there is anything you do not understand, contact us and we will answer your questions. If you are not happy with the terms, then you should consider a different product with a warranty which you like better.

Here is a link to our warranty for anyone who wants to read it.

    Andy,
Sorry, that was the link before we re-did the website, and this forum does not allow editing of old posts. Here is the new link-

The new website is designed for access by mobile devices, which nowadays account for about 70% of all views, so we have removed that section which was very large and contained a lot of photos. Looks like the web guy missed that one link that still remained.
