    Haas DS30 Y lathe 2014, X Axis drift

I've noticed that turning and boring operations are not holding on the X. After warming machine up (spindle and all axis) the X axis on boring gets smaller and on turning gets larger. I find that I need to make wear offsets after every other piece. I'm trying to hold +/- .0005. The crazy thing is: for example: my initial boring bar offset was set at -.01850 , a large number to begin with, and after running 40 parts with continuous offset changes, the final offset was -0.0065. I've checked the bar and the insert and both are OK. Another fact that I'm having an issue with is;: If I should change to a program that doesn't use the specific turning or boring tool(each located in different turret positions) and then switch back to the very same program where my final offset was -.0065. I'll find that that offset no longer applies and may be off by more than -0.0100.

Any ideas? Has someone else had this problem?

Its sort of difficult to understand what you're saying.

How are you touching off your tools?

    What material are you cutting?

If I understand you - a X diameter wear offset of -0.0185" means you moved in your boring bar towards the X 0. centerline and made your diameter smaller by -0.0185". After forty parts your wear offset ended up at -0.0065" for the same boring bar. This means you had to move the X diameter offset away from the X 0. centerline and made the inside diameter larger by 0.012". Is this correct?

When you change programs and run another part, then change back to the original program the offsets are no longer correct and your ID diameter with that boring bar is smaller by 0.01". Is this also correct?
