Re: best type of motor spindle is best

A real 3-phase spindle and VFD is much better than a hand-type router, and immeasurably better than a flex-shaft for use on a CNC machine. Spindles are made to run continuously for long periods of time. Hand routers are made to run for the time it takes to make a single cut on a board. Tun them for hours at a stretch and the bearings go out. Flex-shafts have the advantage of transmitting rotary motion from a bulky motor to a slim hand-piece; they are great for intermittent use on small projects like jewelry buffing. But they will quickly die if used for heavy cuts lasting longer than a few minutes at a time.
