    Chinese spindle 2.2kw

    Hi guys,
I have the chinese spindle 2.2kw and I would like to ask if I can make cuts at 10000RPM in soft wood because my machine can't go faster than 3000mm/min so I run it at 2600mm/min and I set the rpm accordingly. The router bit manufacturer suggests that when RPM=18000 the feed rate should be 5000mm/min and if I need to run it slower I should set the speeds accordingly. In my case I should use 9130 RPM when feeding at 2600mm/min.
Will I have a problem if I run it too slow?

    Thanks.

It should be fine if you stay above 9,000 rpm. I think that the recommended minimum is 8,000.

I have done drilling operations at 2000RPM just fine with my chineses 2.2KW spindle. Slowest I have ever cut at was 12k RPM and it was fine.

2000RPM??? I'm sure it can be done, but how many times before causing damage to spindle is another topic. The lowest recommend min settings I seen was 6000, most are 8000.

You can but you may end up with a power issue. If so the depth of cut should be adjusted.

If your spindle is water cooled then 9130 RPM would be fine, if your spindle is air cooled then you won't be able to run that slow 12,000RPM is about the slowest depending on the manufacture

Yes 2000 RPM. didn't even get warm to the touch. Drilled 400 holes in my spoilboard with a 1/4in drill bit.

You won't feel any heat on the outside that is where the water jacket is, it's the inside that over heats and damages the windings, if you have the parameters set correct the minimum speed is 6000RPM

If it had of stalled while you were using it at that speed, it would look like the photo below, which took less than10s to get like this

Thanks guys, hopefully the spindle is water cooled, so thanks to all of you for helping me.

Generally, sometimes I cannot determine the correct RPM according to feed rate. Let me explain:
I try to follow manufacturer feeds and speeds suggestions, but sometimes I feel/hear that the sound is too loud that the bit may break. For example, when using 6mm 2 flutes positive cut bit at 12000RPM and 2600mm/min in soft wood, I feel that the bit struggles to cut, then I increase the RPM and the noise gets louder. Can the level of the noise tell you that you should change feeds or speeds? I know that machine quality plays its role (I have built mine). Here is a page that found about this subject where it says that finally you can hear the cutting or touch the bit if it has been heated and then set the speeds accordingly but how fixed is this theory? Don't you cut at a noisy level? Too much noise means the bit will become dull quickly?

I may have to post a video of cutting soft wood using the parameters above, next time in this thread.

    Thanks.

It depends on the type of noise. If it's a high pitched squeal or scream, then you are probably cutting too slow, with too high rpm. And yes, if you hear this, the bit will get dull quicker.

I cannot say that it squeals or screams but also I cannot withstand the noise for all the cutting process without using ear protection stuff.
Are you guys able to withstand the cutting noise when using 6mm bit in cutting wood 6mm depth per pass?

    Re: Chinese spindle 2.2kw

    Hi again,
here are three videos of same feed rate but diferrent RPM (12000, 11500, 11000 respectively)
The router bit was very easy to touch right after each process.
I haven't tried to lower than 11000 RPM. because even in 11000RPM, the router cause bigger vibrations in the wood itself, which might affect router bit's life. I suppose I need to screw down wood better on the router table.

1000 rpm is a negligible difference in wood.

Your feedrate is probably too slow at 12,000, and will be way too slow at 18,000.

Feed rate is 2500mm/min in all 3 videos.

Router bit manufacturer suggests 5mm/min at 18000 RPM, so I will try at 9000 RPM and upload new video.

I routinly cut 1/4in deep with a 1/4inch tool 24,000 RPM and 100-200 IPM depending on the type of wood. Hardwoods at the lower speed. No screaming just cutting noise.

1, this spindle is Constant torque spindle .if the speed of spindle less than 4000rpm ,it may be no power to cut .
2,Cutting rate refers to the cutting speed vc, feed rate f (or feed speed vf), back to eat a total of three knife a p, also known as cutting the three elements.
a, the cutting speed vc is the cutting tool on the selected point relative to the workpiece to be machined surface in the main movement side cutting consumption
Of the instantaneous speed unit is M / min.
b, the feed f in the main movement of each revolution or per stroke (or unit time), between the tool and the workpiece relative to the movement direction of the feed displacement in mm / s.
c, the amount of back to eat knife (cutting depth) ap to be machined surface and the vertical distance between the processed surface, in mm.

On my Chinese 2.2kw I use 15000rpm and 7000mm/min , 10mm carbide, 5mm doc. I started at 2000mm/min but found it was taking the edge of the cutters to quick as it was feeding too slow...
