    Indicated/commanded versus DRO discrepancy.

Hey guys, I have a small problem I am trying wrap my head around. I am in the middle of setting up a G0704 mill with CNC control, and I am getting a variation between what I program with G code (which matches what I am getting on the dial indicator) and what is on the DRO within mach.

I programmed a small Y axis movement (G01 Y0.50 F10.0) and put a dial indicator on the cross slide. I was getting within a couple thou from what it was suppose to be, but the DRO says it has moved 1"? The few thou variation I chalked up as a rounding error since I have a metric ballscrew, and am setting the machine up for inches. I added 12 steps to the steps per setting, and it is now within a tenth. The DRO still reads basically double what I am programming.

Any suggestions as to where I should start looking to fix this?

Go to Config >Native Units, and make sure it's in inches.
If it is, then make sure the machine is in inch mode. Look for a G20 in the status bar.

Then, if it's still of by double, then your steps/unit are off by double (or half). If it's moving twice as far as it should, then your steps/unit should be half of what they are.

If I program .5" it moves .5", it's just that the mach3 dro shows it moved double that. I'll check the settings you had mentioned and see if that works.

Do you have any values entered in the Scale DRO?

No, it says 1.0 currently. I just checked and the native units were not in inch. I originally set the machine up in metric because it has metric ballscrews not realizing everything else in Mach3 would be in metric as well. I then converted the steps per over to inches, and I must have forgotten to go back and change the native units.

I'm going to head back out and check this fixes the issue at the machine. Thanks for the help ger21!

Changed the native units to inches, re-calculated my steps per, and all is good now! Thanks again.
