I have a 1980 Kitaco CNC lathe with the 6tb control. It's been a pretty good old beast in general but it is 37 years old.
I'm having a finish problem that seems to be in the X axis. I do mostly face work in aluminum that usually gets polished afterwards. I can run the machine for about 4 hours before getting a weird finish. It looks like either the axis jumps or stops for a rev or 2 (it's hard to tell visually) and leaves what feels like a hump clear around the parts spaced about .2 to .3 apart all the way down the face, almost like an old LP record with very short songs. It's sometimes sorta there and sometimes not when I 1st start running the machine in the mornings but suddenly gets worse after 3-4 hours. What little OD turning I do doesn't show any irregularities at all so I have to assume the problem is X axis only.
The problem has been there for years but seems to come and go. Right now it's giving me fits.
Any ideas?
