    Fly cutting table surface

So what are people using to fly cut their tables?

    Anyone ever use the following?

I would not want to use a fly cutter at router speeds, if that tool bit comes flying out at 10,000+ RPM it would be like a bullet. :nono:

I use a 1.5 inch flat cutting router bit like you show above. Observe the maximum rated RPM on the bit you use.

Yes, exactly why I was inquiring... those things scare me.

Would you have a problem surfacing a small section of aluminum with that same bit? I have a touch off for bit changes built into the table, 2 x 2 square, and should be surfaced with the table.

    Thanks for the post.

The flat router bit should work fine on the aluminum. Keep it wet with WD-40 while cutting the aluminum or it may weld aluminium to the tool bit.

Do not use a Fly Cutter, these cutters are not designed to run at router speeds. Any flat bottom mill cutter will work, emphasis on 'FLAT' not a standard cutter.
