I'm about to overhaul my CNC router, taking it from a Porter Cable router, to a 2.2kw Chinese spindle, new Z axis, different bearings, etc. I've ordered a bunch of parts, but one I haven't ordered yet are ER20 collets for the new spindle. I've been going into a mind warp researching all over the internet for the last few hours. I see a lot of posts recomending quality precision collets, and some saying it doesn't matter on this low quality spindle. Thoughts?
My thought is if the spindle has some runout, why compound it with a collet which also has undue runout? If it's not too crazy expensive, why not get some quality collets? Or am I overthinking everything, and I'm not going to notice the difference on my decidedly not super high quality machine?
And, is there a preferred source?
One more total newbie question: Is it possible to replace the chuck on these spindles, to something like this:
QTC ER20 Tool Holder- Special Offer – Novakon
I see quite a few posts recomending these guys products. I could order that tool holder, and collets from them, for not too much. Thanks in advance for helping to unconfuse my confused and overthinking mind...
