Spindle controller malfunction w/ My x3

Spindle controller malfunction w/ My x3

My machine has stopped allowing me to control the spindle with Mach 3, Now when i engage the spindle it makes a clicking sound (once) and nothing happens.

I have to switch it to manuel mode to get the spindle working.

I have tried several different program commands but nothing seems to engage the spindle in cnc mode, it leads me to believe i have a bad controller board.

Any thoughts? Any one else have this problem?

    Hi Legion99999,
I had a problem with my X3 spindle when I first started testing but I think my problem was due to a conflict with the Mach3 driver. I would test the driver control and usually it would fail on the first test. I eliminated some unnecessary hardware and cleaned up the applications being loaded at bootstrap and now the driver seems to have better control. I imagine you were not experiencing any problems with your spindle prior to this? I have a minor problem with my circular interpolation leaving flats at 90 & 270 degrees but I am hopeing I can eleviate that by readjusting my gibs. Hope you get the spindle controller malfunction fixed soon.
    Best regards,
    Wes

    circular interpolation

    Hi Metalworkz,

I had the same problem with flat spots at Y most negative and Y most positive on the circle.

I found that my Y axis backlash was extreme and checked the coupler cap screws and they were very loose. After tightening them, my Y axis backlash went from .0011 to .002 of an inch. I put that .002 backlash into Mach3 backlash compensation and I can now cut perfect circles etc.

    Things to remember:
    1) check and adjust all the gibbs on your XY table
    2) measure your backlash on XY table
    3) what mode of stepper control is Mach3 set to? Stop or Continous?

    Hi danswaay,
Thanks for replying with the information regarding the flats on interpolation. I will check mine for any such similar problems. I really appreciate your posting this information and look forward to being able to offer something of value myself sometime soon.
    Thanks,
    Wes

    Hi Scyan,

I have included a pic of the stepper/ballscrew coupler.
There are two hex cap screws that tighten on the shaft of the stepper motor and also one on the ballscrew. Make sure these are tight and use Loctite blue etc.

    Regards,

    Dan
