Making a CNC Machine using a 3D Printer

Has anyone dared (If I may) to use a 3D printer to make a CNC Machine?

A fully functional one at that (From scratch)?

I mean they do have tons of these files lying around like for this CNC Adapter.

I've heard of many cases where they use a CNC Machine to make parts for a 3D printer but not the other way around.

    That would be so cool.

Have you tried to google "Mostly printed CNC"?

There are plenty who done that or tried but I don't think it is possible to 3D print a CNC which I would like to use. Not even if it would be possible to print in aluminum.

BTW, that link you included is dead.

@A_Camera - Thx for your reply. Wow that's great information. I have to dig in deeper. I've fixed the link as well. Why would you not want to use a 3D Printer for a CNC if it can print in aluminum? Do you have something against them?

I guess anything is possible if you have enough time and money

Nothing against 3D printers, but the precision, accuracy and repeatability is not enough in the price range most of us can afford to be able to print the REAL precision parts needed to make a useful CNC. Much easier and quicker, as well as cheaper, to mill those parts which are needed.

Even using a 3D printer to make other 3D printers doesn't work so well, despite the enthusiasm that the concept has generated. Milled plastic parts are stronger than printed plastic parts, and even solid plastic isn't the best material for many of the things it's used for - it just happens to be cheaper to make things out of plastic than most other materials. How many plastic parts do you want in your CNC machine?
