DIY EDM build question! (guide compatibility with wire and drill edm)

    hello guys

i will be doing diy edm build soon.

it will be used to cut carbide

only one axis design though, but it meets my needs

i am currently gathering parts and decided to use RC circuit style with arduino feedback

the problem is, it is such a small design, that using conventional diamond guides forces me to make it bigger.

however, if i use edm drill guide, it is veryshort(>25mm), so it allows me to build the micro edm with small footprint

would edm wire sizes ex)0.1mm, and 0.25mm fit into these?

i know diamond guide sizes and such that, it is 5 microns bigger than the wire sizes.

i am not too sure if edm drill guides are the same.

i am aware drill edm are not diamond, usually ruby or ceramic, but for my application it is not too critical.

please do share your experience with this situation

    thankyou

Not sure what components you are using, but the guides in our Drill-20 are about 20x larger than the guides in our Robofil and CUT wire-edm's.

More than that, how do you intend to mount them so that you get proper flushing?

Wire-edm guides and their mountings are designed for that.

EDM-drill guides used in their place ... not so much.

I'm sure you could make them work, but how well and for how long is open to debate.

Re: DIY EDM build question! (guide compatibility with wire and drill edm)

since the guides for the drills are designed to be rod-like, my design allows it to be fixed easily with a grub screw. also, i've found this drill guide with length of 25mm only.
so the only problem is whether say 0.1mm wire fits into 0.1mm drill guides. i do know that the wire's actual dimension is different from its specified size.
    so 0.1mm = 0.105mm
so i thought there might be fitting problems.

however, i just decided to use tensioned wire over several grooved bearings and final adjustment with two bolts, lol. i think this might actually work as the bolt threads are V shaped, and very easily replaceable and readjusted.
