BobCAD V28 Mill 4 axis Rotary side milling

    Hi,

I'm running BobCAD V28 4 Axis Pro Mill on a 5 axis milling (5 Axis Table Table Machine post Config like) and I'm trying to make a simple 4 axis rotary feature on my part (the red surface is what I have to machine) .

I know there's differents ways to make that simple feature but I never tried 4 axis rotary and wanna give it a try.

Here's what my setup look like :

Tilt my A axis (Trunion Table) to work with the rotary table :

Again, all I want to do is machine the little shape on top of part with the rotary axis and the 3 others axis (X-Y-Z) :

All went very good (Toolpath, start/end points and degree....) :

The problem is that it does not machine the shape (on face) that I want and only machine the O/D (Outside Diameter) that I don't wanna touch :

The EndMill goes deeper (along the rotary axis : Y axis) that the dimension limit I gived and it not goes deeper (Z axis) to side mill that face.
I've tried every strategy options in that feature, trying to work with the stock...etc.....nothing changed.
Does this option only work to machine O/D feature and not side milling shape ?
Again, I know there's others way to make it but I thought it was a good way to make it quick and simple and at the same time, tried the 4th axis rotate feature.
    Hope I explained it well

Tx a lot for your Help

Based on your images I would change my start and end points. Because the center of the tool is driven to that location.

    Wow.....
That's exactly what I was looking for
Is that option is in "Mill Multiaxis" feature ?

    Hi Al,
On the Bc_4x_mill, the rotary is on the "right side of the table" when facing the sim. Is there a way to flip it as you show in the video with the 5 axis machine, without editing the STL's and everything? We setup our rotary on the left side.

Burr, you'll have to edit where the models are zeroed and change the machine definition in order to simulation a 4th axis that is parallel with Y.

    Hey Al,
Not change to axis to Y parallel....

If you are facing the machine, bobcads rotary is setup on the x axis, facing to your left. We use it facing to the right.

So bobcads, the right side of the rotary face in axis is facing the housing. We want the left side of rotary facing housing.

    Hi Al,
Really nice what you've done reproducing my part and make it work so quickly
I watched your video and tried to make it work. I was closed but some errors happen.

The first attempt (with almost all of your feature options checked) was a mess of movements and it appears to work the other side of the part ...

After that, I tried to only take one surface and give it a try. It goes not bad but same problem, it work the other side of the part...

I tried to reverse the direction but no changes....
I see you choose 5 axis in "Tool Axis control" tab. I only have the 4 axis Pro product, is it something that could cause a problem making that part like you do ?

You need to look at the surface normals and make sure they are pointing in the same direction and to the side you want to cut.

Worked like a charm with reverse surface normal
i'll give a try on the machine to try it
Tx a lot for your support Al, really appreciated
