I am new to woodworking and even newer to CNC routers. That said, I am working on a home project right now that involves a LOT of small, repetitive cuts to be made. After doing a little research, I believe a CNC router is in my future... but I need some advice. I cannot spend several thousand dollars on one. I have found several on ebay in the $500-$600 range (3040 models), but am scared to buy one only to find out it is crap. With low cost being of most importance, does anyone have any advice on what model to buy? I do not need anything too big or fancy, just something that is small enough for my home, but big enough to be useful. Something that I can learn on and be good with it. A good starter model that will not encourage me to let it sit and collect dust by putting out crap work.

What kind of cuts?
A CNC router is just another tool, and wouldn't be my tool of choice for a lot of repetitive cuts? But I don't really know what you're doing.

You don't have many options in the under $1000 range. All I can say is maybe watch some Youtube videos on the 3040 machines, and find one that people are happy with.
Even then, there's a chance that you'll need to fix, or update some things.
Even machines in the $1500 range leave a lot to be desired.
