    osp5000L vs 5000L-G

    I'm looking at old okumas'
Is it a big benifit to have a 5000L-g controler over the 5000L?

i'm only familiar with fanuc controls were options make a big difference in performance. Are there any desrirable options I should look for?

do they come with a macro language std?

I have only found a 5000L-g manual online. is there a osp5000L manual online?

    thanks

The 5000l-g is when they made the jump to graphics so it was majorly upgraded at that time. It was highly advanced for its day and remains one of my favorite controls. I'd pass on the 5000l "green screen" control. Parameters are all remapped and difficult to get support on since so few were made.
Experience is what you get just after you needed it.

    thanks for the info.

I read in another thread you mention neither of these controlers can be drip feed (DNC)?

how much of a limitation is this with a lathe? I couldn't live without drip feed on my old mil.

I'd stay away from the L as well. Even simple rs232 was hard to set up. 2 axis lathe programs are usually pretty small. I never ran in to a issue on the LG control.

    thanks for the info.

it's a shame the one with the 5000L was in better shape.

no drip feed if it is not specified on OSP Data Card.

    Drip feed = DNC link.
i.e. program is passed to the machine in small chunks, usually a program that is way bigger than the capacity of the machine to store internally. i.e. CAM written programs for mould making etc...
Usually associated more with Mills than with Lathes.
