Hello,
Does anyone know how long you can run the Sherline 5400 Mill. I just ran mine for about 9 hours on High and the motor seems kinda warm...I can rest my hand on it for about 3 or 4 seconds. Is this normal..
thanks

Perhaps a small muffin cooling fan aimed at the motor might add a little cheap insurance. Also you might find a way of attaching some old heatsinks to the motor without blocking any existing cooling holes. Sigh, if only you had a mill you could really make something : )
An old trick that some electric vehicle people sometimes use, is seating the motor to its attachment with heat sink compound.
I've seen people use small squirrel cage blowers and plastic hose to force cool motors.
Any of the above may void your warrantee.
Sounds about normal to me. i have a couple of Sherline lathes and mills. The only time I had the temp cut out go off was using a 3/8" bit in a 10,000 rpm set up. One cnc project I ran went for 9 hours, the motor was at 140 deg.f and the head stock was 105.f
