Problem or question I have is can I run this with 120V input to the VFD? Since the motor is 2HP the VFD manual states it needs 220V input. I would like to run it with 120V for now but not if it will cause damage to the VFD or motor. I don't need the max power ANYTHING would be better than what I'm using now.
I'm not a knife maker just using this for general deburing and grinding.

The problem is that the VFD will operate on 120v but the motor is 240v.
If wanting to go low rpm I would have chosen a 4 pole motor not the 2 pole shown.
Can you run a 240v line?

120v has one black wire (load) and one white white (neutral)
220v has two black wires both has voltage going through them.
I don't think you will be able to run you belt grinder on 120v.

As a point of technical correctness. Neither has voltage flowing through them, only current, Voltage does not flow.
With 120 the same current flows in the neutral as the 'live' conductor, providing a single circuit.
240v the same, no voltage, just current in each conductor.

I can go 240 in the shop but I would like to use this grinder in the basement shop which is difficult to get 240v. You say "low rpm", will it run as is since the VFD outputs 240v? I guess what I'm trying to determine is should I return the motor and get a 1.5hp 3ph version?

What is the general useful rpm you are looking for?
That one is 3500rpm, a 4 pole will be roughly half that rpm to start off with. Which you can go up to 3500 if you wish with a VFD.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what RPM I need most of my reading says faster is better but I'm not sure. MY main concern is if I can run this 2HP 3PH motor using that VFD on 120V input and not harm anything. If it's just slower I may not even know the differance since this is new to me. LIke i said before, if it runs at all it'll be better than my HF belt sander. :0

The VFD most likely will fault out if it is for220 / 240v, and you use 120v, you can get some VFD models that are for 120v input and give you 220v output, or if you are stuck with the 120v then you could use a step up Transformer to supply the 220v to the VFD

According to the manual, you can set it to 120vac input by jumper for a 230v 3ph motor but your supply circuit, breaker etc has to be rated 25amps. As well as appropriate wire Ga.
If you have both at the moment you could hook it up this way as per the manual and try it.

If you have a 25amp 120v circuit right now, it may be possible to change it in the panel to 240v breaker.

Thank you Al. I don't have a 25amp circuit available just std. 120v household (15a?). Seems like I better get a 1.5hp motor to be on the safe side. I was hoping it would run safely but just be slower or underpowered.

Slow and underpowered does not sound like a very good scenario to operate in.

You can buy a 120vac input vfd to run a three phase motor, I have only seen them up to 1hp. I just found a few on ebay up to 1.5 hp but there could be a mistake.

It sill not rin any slower... Same power, I have ran many 1hp 3phaze motors with 120 volt vfd.
