    Hacking the Auto Air Gun

    Greetings,

Flood coolant isn't ideal for youtubers so I tried our Minimum Quantity Lubrication for the very first time last weekend - and failed.

Today I just finished a simple hack which makes the Auto Air Gun more useful. I will test it over the next weeks and report back.

Re: Hacking the Auto Air Gun

    Hi Piece Maker,

Really enjoyed visiting your YouTube Channel. BTW I subscribed. It was nice to see someone else that looks beyond what is currently offered in the way of options..

A while back I was looking at using the programming in the Minimum Oil Machining to add an air nozzle to occasionally blow out the chips in deep pockets. Basically, switch between PCOOL and Air Blast using M Codes As I didn't own or have the Minimum Oil Machining installed on my HAAS, the Haas Technicians wouldn't give me the pin outs on the plugs in the control cabinet. One of my friends here helped me with a manual system that could control the (Duration i.e. length of on time) and (Frequency i.e. how often the air blast would come on. The attached links to the videos will give you a better idea of how it all worked. I attached an air line to the PCOOL Nozzle to allow for a direct air blast to the part. I also hooked up a manual air control foot switch to use as needed.

In my opinion, what would be the ultimate system is a ring with coolant/air nozzles all the way around the diameter of the spindle similar to the ones shown in 2:12 timeline of your video that would adjust similar to the PCOOL to accommodate different length tooling. The system could be programmed to select either air or coolant or both. The air blast part of the system could be programmed to offer blasts of air to blow out deep pockets during machining operations.

Here are a few videos of what I did to my 2007 HAAS TM-1P. BOY! That HAAS machine you have is a REAL DREAM!!!!
