I need some advice. I'm looking at buying a new lathe and would appreciate any advice you have. Doosan Puma 3100 LY vs Mazak QTN 350M. I know one is a Y axis machine and one isn't and I understand the advantages that a Y axis brings. I have two Mazak lathes and use Mazatrol but I also program other Fanuc lathes with Featurecam.
So the control isn't really the issue here. Both have advantages and disadvantages. This is a discussion is about iron.

My main concern is box ways vs linear guides. One of my Mazak lathes is QT28N from the mid 1990's. It is a linear guide machine that still holds tenths to this day. The Mazak salesman is saying that the Mazak is so accurate even for its age because of the linear guides. That a box way machine doesn't have the long term accuracy.
The Doosan sales is saying their box way machines are just as accurate after years of running and much more rigid.

Does anyone have any input or knowledge if linear guides are really more accurate? I have found articles discussing the differences but none of them really discuss the accuracy and repeatability.
