CNC 3040 popping and making noise

Hey guys I have an issue with my steppers, whenever I travel up and down the axises i have popping and clanking like the screw it travels on is binding, I've tried to adjust the motors and it kind of helps, almost seems like the stepper is stuttering.

From what you describe the problem sounds mechanical. Remove the motor and turn the screw by hand to see if you are mechanically binding. Lack of lubrication maybe? Broken ball in the ball nut? Binding on the rails?

Thanks for the quick reply, it seemed to help after tuning motors, except now when I run x y and z simultaneous it grinds and stalls?

All of the axes are stalling? But only when running X, Y, Z simultaneously? If that's the case, maybe a power supply issue? Do you have a way to check the power supply voltage while running?

I had an issue with motors stalling when trying to use 2 axis simultaneously, turned out to be the PSU.

Yes, I can check the power supply while running. Although I do not have any specs on it. I tuned the motors and they seemed to run a lot better by themselves when I jog them, but if I jog all axis at the same time they grind and stall. I'll check power supply voltage today after work!

Do you have a recommended power supply to replace the old 24v one?
