Need Help with no Machine zero

I just got my first cnc lathe, but I'm having trouble getting my head around not having a machine zero to send the machine to. Can anyone tell me what is the best way to work with this?

    I'm not sure I understand.

    What lathe? What controller?

There will be a zero position, but it's partly dependent on controller, lathe, and preference as to where that is.

I have my lathe set up with 0,0 being the point farthest away from the chuck at the maximum limits of Z and X.

The lathe is a Neutron CJK0640 and it has a WA31DT controller. I am used to my mill, just push the home button and XYZ home out. with the lathe I'm told it's a floating zero.

Yea... floating zero. No zero micro switches. Hard to use but possible. I have a CNC Masters lathe like that. X,Z are zeroed out wherever you set. Then the controller counts pulses from there. Be sure to return to zero home point before shutting it down.

I will give it a try. Haven been able to do anything with the lathe for the last few weeks, been epoxying the workshop floors.
