What is the better board, for a lathe, using UCCNC software a UC300ETH or the UC400ETH and why?

UCCNC does not have a lathe specific mode, in case you weren't aware.

The UC300ETH adds analog I/O and 3 more ports, for only about $20 more. The only advantage the UC400ETH has, is that it's $20 cheaper.

The uc400 has exactly the same micro processor as the uc300eth.

The uc400 comes with a mounting backplate so you could just cut a hole in your driver case, plug an rj45 in one side and two idc 26 pin to lpt ribbon cables onto the PCB and you've replaced a much slower dual lpt card interface setup on a pc which you can now run from a newer pc that may not have lot ports (or a laptop, although they are normally discouraged because of potential wifi network polling and latency plus potential inbuilt power saving modes)

I have both, but only really because the uc400 was released before the uc300eth and I was moving from a smooth stepper and wanted Ethernet and not usb (better noise immunity for plasma)

If I did it again... Uc300eth + uccnc (both from cncdrive) + ub1 breakout board (from cncroom).

Turning / lathe is not available at present (g95 is not available),

However I highly recommend you register on the cncdrive forum and list your vote for lathe to push it's development along as it will aide the rest of us waiting.

Cncdrive are very proactive when it comes to development but they do stick to a prioritised strategy of development based upon feedback from users over what they see as desirable or essential.

Another thing to consider.

The UC400ETH can be bulkhead mounted. Which can be an advantage in some cases.

LEDs are visible outside a control cabinet. Ethernet cable can plug in directly.

If you definately don't need the extra inputs and outputs (including analog) then the UC400ETH can in SOME cases be a better choice.
