Tapping Thomson 1 1/4" ss 440c linear rail

Guys so I need to mount new round linear rails on my machine. So I found a deal from eBay but they seem to be the 440c case hardened and not the normal 1566 steel. I was pretty sure I'd have no trouble cutting the normal rail with a carbide endmill then drilling and tapping as normal but will I be able to do the same on this stainless rail? Or should I just buy the regular rail? I would prefer the stainless just because it won't rust for sure but really I just need the hardest rail possible as my last rail essentially seems like it got soft and the balls from the linear rail dug into it causing grooving. This may have been caused when one of the linear bearings seized but they have been replaced.

For reference this is Thomson 1 1/4 linear rail and super 20 bearings

Just to add the holes are going to be drilled and tapped 1/4-20

To answer a few questions, 440C can still form rust on it. The grooving is inherently normal. Tapping in 440C alone can be tough on taps, let alone it being case hardened. We make out own out of 303 BSQ CG&P and then have them hard chromed, then use rulon lined liner bushing but you application might not work with this, I dont know.

I was looking at the solid bushings but the cost is prohibitive. It seems that I'll just get the normal case hardened and if I can find a good deal I'll se if I can get the bushings vs the bearings.

Call bearing services, they'll get what you need with predrilled and tapped holes.
