How to network a Syntec controller

Hi, I have recently purchased a 3600x1800 pod & rail woodtron CNC router. It uses a Syntec 21 series controller and I have purchased BobCad cad/cam software to use with it. They are currently writing the post processor for it.

Does anyone have any experience with the Syntec controller, specifically connecting it to a network to import/load NC files.

I have found a few tutorials online but not the exact controller and no success as yet. I have also looked at the manual again again looks to be the manual for the series not the specific controller. I'm also unfamiliar with Windows which is a learning curve in itself!

    Cheers

    Cam.

    Hi Maki,

you should be able to access the ip address by going to f6 parameters, then it may show f2 or f3 network settings. If not you need to press F6 parameters, then f10 then it will show the network settings.

What version of windows are you running on your office pc, as network and sharing settings need to be changed as well.

Ok. I will try that. I have followed the steps in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im4JK88PFN0 But can't change the name on the controller (around the 3.30 mark) I'm running windows 10.

You will be able to change the pc name

First you want to select static IP address on the controller (not via DHCP)

Then check what the IP address is on your office pc (for example 192.168.1.3)

You then want to make the ip address on the cnc 192.168.1.50 (last number can be anything but no higher than 100)

arrow key down to the pc name, this needs to be the pc name of the office computer

then arrow key to the DIR, this needs to be the folder name of the files folder that will be on your office pc. (i.e create a folder in the C drive - Woodtron. you will place all the cnc files in here)

this woodtron folder will then need to be shared and network sharing settings need to be set correctly on the office pc.

    Ok, thank you.

I believe I have set up the info on the office pc correctly, or can adjust it easily enough.

Accessing and changing the info on the syntec is harder. The controller in that video is different with a slightly different menu setup etc.

I'll go in later today and try those steps to see if it works. Anything else to look at/consider?

do that first as it will determine whether you have a correct connection.

after that networking will be easy.

    I'm at the workshop now.

I have pinged the controller. Below is the screenshot.

The Office PC is connected to the controller by an ethernet cable direct from PC to Controller.

Re: How to network a Syntec controller

You have to be connected to the controller via a switch

Go to officeworks and get a 5 port switch and 2 or 3 meter cat5 cable (depending on how far the switch with be away from your pc.

This will then allow you to access the controller and have internet on your pc

    Ok.

    My office PC ip: 192.168.0.102
    CNC Ip: 192.168.0.101

I have renamed pc to makimaki
I have entered pc name on cnc as makimaki
I have created a folder on the c drive called cnc and shared it as per the video instructions.
I have entered the DIR info but it doesn't seem to work - see attached screenshot.

    good

Dir Name needs to be the folder name on your c drive, in this case - cnc

once entered press F1 ok. turn the controller off and on again.
