    Laser Cutting a Monogram

I am new to laser cutting and engraving and recently received a Boss LS3655. We have just recently began listing our new items and one of the first requests we have obtained is for 24" wooden monogram, using 1/2 Birch. When I set this up in Rdworksv8 I am showing a time of approximately 1:30hrs. Is this correct? How do I speed this up? I see all kinds of shops selling these, and wouldn't think they're spending an hour or more on one item that is going to profit them less than $15.

    Using a 100W laser with 2mm/sec speed, 100% power

Attached is the file, Yes it has been welded etc

You should be able to cut at 5-7mms. Try 99% Power.

I just attempted a smaller version of it as a test at 6 speed, 95 power as 95 is the highest it shows the machine will use. It cut the outer perimeter but practically had to be pushed out. The inner pieces didn't cut through at all. Any suggestions?

Can you adjust your laser head or table hight? I cut 9 small circles at different speeds and table hight until I get a clean cut. Just adjust after each circle.

That's what I did the first time, I was able to cut a clean circle at both 5mm and 6mm with the same settings, but when I go do a letter, or the monogram it doesn't cut through

Can you try on all four corners of your machine?

I have been using the top left, where I haven't been cutting all the way through. The top right and bottom right aren't even scoring the back of the wood. On the bottom left, the lines appeared to get more thick but didn't cut through at all.

I then cut four circles in all four corners. The bottom and top left side cut great. The top right I had to push through, and the bottom right did not cut through at all.

You need to realign the laser mirrors. Once allied you should have consent cuts in all four corners. This is a pain to do but worth it.

Boss Lasers (built in China) are better than ebay Chinese lasers but the 95% power limit might be Boss trying to protect their tubes. Do you have an ammeter on your machine? If so, are you sure 95% is not over-driving your tube past the rating for your tube? You don't want to kill or seriously shorten the life of your tube by over-driving it. Examine your tube carefully for a sticker with the manufacturer name (Puri, Reci, EFR, SPT, etc.) and tube model number (NOT the KEH black and silver label), then go to the tube manufacturer's website and look up the specifications.

You would need to test, but sometimes it is actually faster to make multiple passes at faster speeds when cutting really thick material. Additionally, multiple passes can produce less charring with organic stuff like wood.

Also, the time estimate in the preview function is often wildly inaccurate!
