    question about the compound

Hi ppl, i own a 1995!!! 1720 xmtc. I am wondering about the shoptask compound tool post. My machine did not come with one. Is the S.T. one decent or should I look for a different manuf.?

The OEM tool post/compound is quite different from the setup on a regular lathe. You may or may not like it. Have you looked at the photos on the shoptask site?

If you are looking for a quick change post you'll probably need to retrofit a compound from a different lathe to mount the whole thing to the table. They can be hard to find.

I've been thinking about going this route but haven't been able to find a good compound. If anyone else has suggestions for mounting a QCTP to the shoptask let us know.

I just visited the Shoptask site and I see what you mean. It appears that you clamp the compound in the turret in the same way as you hold a cutting tool. I think it would work but I bet someone in this group has found a better way.
