I picked up a 1989 Conquest 42 with a Fanuc OT controller. I would like to replace the RS232 with USB or Ethernet connection. Is a USB serial port the best way to go? Rip out the Fanuc control and upgrade the system?
Any ideas?
Thanks, Jim

Hi,
Do not use Wifi in the shop. Use cable connections only. Try a device like Moxa Nport 5110 and convert your RS232 to Ethernet. Then you may use any DNC software with a virtual COM port on a computer.
AGG Software. DNC Precision and CNC Syntax Editor software.
I do agree with you about having machine tools connected to a internet connected network; wired or Wi-Fi. My prefered file transfer method is by USB stick, keeps an air gap between the machines and the world.
Having said that, what other objections do you have about using Wi-Fi in the shop?
