    UB1 Daughterboard - What features?

CNC Room is considering offering a daughterboard for the UB1 breakout board, to use ports 4 and 5.

What features would you like to see on them?

Single port board, or 2 port board?

    Mostly inputs, or mostly outputs?

    NPN? PNP?

Re: UB1 Daughterboard - What features?

Thank you Gerry for putting this topic up for me.
As a listener and creator of this daughter board. I have a rough ideal about features and layout to startup with.

-2 LPT in one daughter board
-Second Charge Pump. ( A request from Gerry. UCCNC has second CP signal)

-13 npn isolated inputs 24V. (This is for NPN sensor ans normal switches)

-13 npn/pnp isolated inputs 5v/24V. (general inputs for all type of sensors, switches and devices to interface to UC300eth)

-8 npn sink output (same as its mother board)

I took out some unnecessary fancy things to make it in reasonable price.

However, please raise your issue or your need about this board.

Please have them default to 24V.

Yes I will put them in 24V by default.

-13 NPN isolated inputs 5V/24V. (This is for NPN sensor ans normal switches)
These terminal points I will separate them into 2 group, 6+7. their common pin able to select 5V/24V separately.

-13 NPN/PNP isolated inputs 5V/24V. (general inputs for all type of sensors, switches and devices to interface to UC300eth)
These terminal points I will also separate them into 2 group, 6+7. their common pin able to select 0V/5V/24V separately.

This is my goal for inputs, keeping all LED status for each input is a challenge also. We will see how all of these come to life.

Question on the pin layout on ports 4 and 5 of the UB1. Do they match the pin layouts of the CNCdrive 5-LPT board? And if so will this work with the 5-LPT on ports 4 and 5.

    Thanks

    Hi Derek

I need to check 5LPT schematic and confirm later.

Re: UB1 Daughterboard - What features?

    Hi Derek,
Sorry Derek, I can't give you answer right away because during this month I'm staying in another house, not near to my electronic lab house. So I can't investigate on actual things.
For this moment I can only look into information on my notebook computer.

The inputs port 4, 5 of UB1 are pulled-down with weak resistors, in case of there is nothing plug into it. LED status on diagnostic page all turn off.
If you have 5LPT board, please check if there is nothing plug into it. What is status of LED it's given?

However, There is a cure to make daughterboard compatible with both motherboards.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Weerasak
Right now I'm using 2 CNCdrive HDBB2 BOBs on ports 2 and 3 of the 5LPT. That leaves 1,4 and 5 unused. I have yet to find an opto isolated board that will work as a plug and play.

Here is a screen shot of the pinouts on the 5-LPT. Ports 1,4 and 5 are are listed on the right.

No big hurry but If there is a way to use one of the daughter boards on two of the ports I would buy 2 or 3 depending on the price.

    Thanks

    Hi Derek,
Could you take a screenshot on diagnostic page of UCCNC while running on real hardware.

I'd like to see all screen LED status. Especially port 4,5.

I expected all inputs off when nothing plugged into them.

Please understand, I'm away from my workbench for a while. But, I'm curious to know.

    Thanks,
    Weerasak

Here you go. UC-300 ETH with 2 HDBB2 BOBs on ports 2 and 3. Nothing plugged into 1,4 or 5. Machine is out of estop.

    Hi Derek,
Thank you for the screenshot. That shows all screen LED status. when nothing plugged into port 1,4,5
I will design the daughter board that give the same result as shows in screenshot, that when all inputs are not activate. However, when any of inputs activated, that LED become off or black.

That will make this board compatible with 5LPT.

Thank you for reminding that another group of people also want it too.

Hi Weerasak, You'll have a customer right here for one of these (possible two as I might buy another UB1). The features as you have described would be fine.

Thanks for all your hard work and great products.

Breakout boards don't have special features for lathe use. And UCCNC doesn't have a lathe mode at this time.

    Hi Weerasak

Any kind of updated ETA on these. I'm starting to put together my ATC and i wanted to use this for the IO.

    Thanks

    Hi Guys,
I finished designing. I'm in the process of generating files for PCB manufacturer. It would take up a month to have first prototype.
Please look into partial zoom picture. Are there wording and sentences need to be corrected?

    Thanks

Red face Re: UB1 Daughterboard - What features?

    Hello Guys,

I'd like update the development of UD1. The UB1/5LPT Daughterboard. Soon after I received the PCB. I took another two days to assembly 3 pair (2 pcs for one panel) of them, mostly spend time in setting pick and place machine. There are two version of components. One is NPN inputs version. Another is Universal inputs version that able to accept both NPN and PNP and AC inputs.

Notice that on Universal version below, Those the green lights are PNP inputs connection and the red are NPN inputs connection. The inputs can be configured thru common pin, by connecting to 0V, 24V and 5V.

The picture below, the UD1 is paired with the CNCDrive 5LPT board. The UD1 supplies 5V power to 5LPT thru pin 26 of LPT4, LPT5.

In this configuration. There is no need for additional 5V power supply for UC300ETH. The current meter shows 348mA power consumption for both UD1, 5LPT-UC300ETH. There is another 250mA left for driving other things, such as motor drives, etc.

The dc2dc module on UD1 able to supply at maximum 600mA. So, if your configuration consume more than this, the external 5V power supply is a must.

There is always few mistakes or at least a mistake even I try hard not to overlook tiny things.
From the trial, I found few mistakes for this version. So, please forgive me as I need another month to finish it ;-).

Looks great. Like everyone I'm sure, I would rather wait a little longer for a board you are happy with for sure.

I'm getting pretty close to finishing my ATC that I plan on using this on. Hopefully the timing will work out. Is it still like a month for shipping to the USA or has that improved.

    Thanks

You can always use FedEx and get it in a week.

I think it's closer to 2-3 weeks normally.
My MB2 took about 4, but that was during Christmas.
