stepper motor wire and limit switch wire

Where is a good place to buy 22/4 or 18/4 shielded cable for my steppers and 24/2 shielded limit switch wire?
    Thanks

Home Depot sells 18/2 and 22/4 by the foot. They also have a larger selection in 500 ft rolls.

Here is some excellent wire. I first used some of te cheap stuff and it didn't take soldering very well. This stuff is made to take the constant flexing. For the limit switches I used the single pair shielded from Home Depot.

You can also buy directly from Igus.
    McMaster Carr is another option.

There are al sorts of potential suppliers.

First I’d suggest staying away from the home centers. Much of what they sell isn’t suitable for automation work.

Second look for electrical supply houses in your city or town. The big advantage here is cut to size cable suitable for automation.

Next are the online Automation dealers like Automation direct.

Fourth the big electronics houses like DigiKey, Newark, Simcona and a whole bunch of others. DigiKey for example give amazing service.

In the picture, isn't the 4th wire (green) the ground and is separate from the shield?

No because you need 4 wires for a stepper so you could not use it as a ground.

Ah, I was thinking spindle motor wire.

You can get 2 conductor shielded wire at Home Depot for your limit switches. They sell it by the foot. I used 4 conductor for my limit switches because all three switches (+ Limit, - Limit, and Home) on each axis are located close to each other. I use one conductor as ground for all three switches and then one conductor for each switch.

Probably OK for non flexing operations. If you are running Kong’s lengths inductance might become a problem with 18 ga but on most home built machines shouldn’t be an issue.
