Question Broken bit from bad connection of alligator clip!..ugh

So first time this has happened to me. I'm using 2010 screenset and was doing a tool change...put the bit in, connected my alligator clip to the bit and cycle start to probe to my fixed plate...only it didn't stop and broke the bit.

Guess i'll have to always check the connection is working before hitting start....

or does anyone has a different solution that using an alligator clip for better contact??

I never used the clips. My whole machine is grounded so I just used 1 wire to the touch plate and the other side of my ground was the tooling

Bosch Colts have plastic bodies, and I think the spindle is isolated.

You could always switch to a toolsetter, rather than a conductive plate. I plan on going that route in the future.

The lower section of the the bosch is aluminum...but not sure if its conductive to the tool though will try it...
Just so convenient for tool changes with the 2010 screenset this way...

Spring loaded with a switch or sensor inside.

Years ago we did one with a small plunger and a Baumer precision switch. If you have a lathe, a decent one is pretty easy to make. As for more reliable that is up for debate but we could get repeatability in the single digit micron range.

I guess they actually break electrical contact when touched.
