    Two steppers from one channel?

All, I need to drive two stepper motors for the same axis - my table has two steppers on the X axis. Is it safe to use the parallel port outputs to run two stepper drivers in parallel? I have the HOBBYCNC driver kit and it's not heavy enough to run two motors from one driver channel. Will I need to build a parallel port "breakout box" to drive two stepper drivers from the parallel port X axis outputs? If so, anyone know of a good box to use?

I believe pin 1 (sync) on the L297 chip achieves this function when connected to another L297.
