    Buying torroid power supply?

    Hi,

I was checking out some torroid power supply from newarkinone.com and they have a whole range of power supply. I noticed that a 24V power supply with output current of 6.6A (in series) can have an output current of 13.2A when in parallel? Whats is this series and parallel? Thanks in advance.

If you Google 'Series Parallel' you will find all kind of explanations, the results of parallel/series of supplies has basically the same volt/amp results/characteristics as the load descriptions.

    Hi Al,

Thanks for the link. I get it now. Its the old basic parallel and series connection stuff I used to learn at school. So I will be right to say if I connect my stepper drivers in series, the amperage will reduce. So it is better to connect all the drivers in parallel then. Correct. Then I won't lose any amperage.

I guess I was wrong in my analogy, with power supplies in series the current rating will be the same as one, or at the level of the lower rated one, and voltage x2.
In parallel the current rating will be double, if identical supplies are used and voltage x1.
