Proper way to clean chips from machine

I recently purchased my Partner 1. Along with an array of other probelms, there are alot of chips in the machine i would like to clean up. Especially inside the Y axis area.

Could I spray down the entire machine with a hose and maybe a cleaning solution like Simple Green or Purple Power?

Or are there areas I want to avoid getting wet?

I don't think you want to use a water base cleaner on your machine unless you are going to take it completely apart for a cleaning. A petroleum based solvent would be better. Another option is to use non-flammable brake parts cleaner, but use in a well ventilated area.

I used Mineral Spirits on the upper portions of the machine and washed everything down into the sump (Partner 4 which is a knee mill). Then I mixed ZEP Purple industrial cleaner with water and using an old shop vac (that I threw away after this), sucked the tramp oil and mineral spirits out, and then flushed multiple times with the Zep, and sucked it dry. Worked very well and now I only use MQL lubricant and if my sump fills up, to will all be way oils dripping down ingot he machine base.
