I asked Tormach... I have the regular path pilot controller, and wanted to be able to reuse it. they said no, but didn't elaborate. New videos up from Tormach BTW. Looks like the PDB has a better switch and the enclosure is definitely better. Also looks like it includes the 4th axis kit. - To clarify I asked them about my existing controller with the servo version. Might work with the regular one, not sure.
Just a guess:
Considering the chip tray now takes up the entire underside of the stand I'd guess the PC is now an ITX or mini ITX motherboard mounted inside the control cabinet. Would make sense really. You only need half a square foot tops for the whole thing including Mesa card.
Someone needs to get a really detailed picture of the 1.5hp motor on the 770M ASAP.
I don't see anything in the way of a mini iTX board in the enclosure from the videos. I do see a door on the lower right of the machine. There is also a cable that says controller communications (ethernet? Heck - long day and no glasses on so I dunno).
Looks like accessory inputs are on the side, outside of the enclosure but there is a slot/opening above the A-axis port towards the top right of the enclosure if you look carefully.

That would tend to point to Tormach integrating the Mesa 7i92 card into the electronics cabinet, so you can plug into it with ethernet cable instead of having to run a DB25 cable.
Which definitely points to an external PC as the controller. Which is a good thing in my book.
Another very positive thing is that you can see that Tormach is sticking with the separate axis stepper drives and break-out-board, instead of going with the (unreliable) all-in-one Leadshine MX3660 like the 440 does.

NYC CNC "Livestream: Tormach 1100M and 1100MX" posted on YouTube yesterday
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5AUlhe1N4c
Not that much that has not already been covered here but interesting nonetheless. I've been considering a Haas purchase but now I think I'm going to hold off until more info comes out on the 1100MX. If anyone has a link to the Tormach Livestream that was apparently also posted yesterday please post a link as I have not been able to find it, apparently it was posted on Facebook. I'm not a Facebook user, it will take more than that to get me to sign up.
Yah, Tormach didn't say the controller was integrated or anything, just that it used ethernet cable instead of db9 or whatever the old controller used. Looks like I'll have a Pathpilot controller for sale soon!
Paul, here is the video: https://www.facebook.com/Tormach/vid...5428676841466/
It looks to me as if some people will actually come out ahead with the M models, depending upon their existing shipping cost. In the facebook video, it was mentioned that the 770M $15,500 package also includes a vice (current price $495) and the TTS operator set (current price $795). It will also include some end mill packages.
Here's the package I made that I think could be comparable. I left off all tooling and still come out more than $15,500. Granted some of these items may not apply to the new package, and the PP controller may actually be cheaper for the M models considering a much smaller PC is used to run it according to Saunder's video.

Well, I'm going to go check it out next month. They weren't super helpful in arranging that (website says you can schedule a visit off 9-5 M-F business hours, but they said no). Anything you wonder about? I can ask when I'm there and/or take some pics.
They said that you could not visit the showroom?

no, it just took 8 emails before we figured it out. On their website they say you can schedule after hours or weekend, but after some back and forth, they said no. They will do demos too, but I just wanted to see it, not do a demo. Whatever. wasn't "wowed" by the customer service considering the thousands of miles to get there, but am eager to see the new machine.
Not to mention the $1000s for the purchase!
Thanks for the reply

There are new protective tariffs of 25% coming on various items from China. The list includes Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System numbers such as:
8458.11.00 Horizontal lathes (including turning centers) for removing metal, numerically controlled
8459.61.00 Milling machines, other than knee type, numerically controlled
8460.12.00 Flat-surface grinding machines, numerically controlled
These would seem to cover most of Tormach's product lines. For example, when my 770 arrived in Canada it was imported under 8459.61.xx. Any feeling regarding how these new tariffs will affect their prices?
I feel like a 25% tariff will increase the price by 25%, maybe a little less as the full price you pay is not just the machine and Tormach would want to try to minimize the impact, but they still would need to increase the price. That being said, as we've seen before, the tariff may or may not happen. As we've seen with other moves like this, it's probably a negotiating tactic. I hope that is the case, a 25% increase on a $15K+ machine is not small potatoes and is completely dead-loss (what I mean is that if you buy the machine and the tariff goes away later, the resale value is not going to include any of the tariff you paid up front).
If Tormach has a good amount of inventory, they could also delay raising prices as the tariff would only hit them as new machines arrived from their supplier.
Agreed. The value of what is imported, for purposes of duty, doesn't include development costs, support costs, costs of free local shipping or Tormach's profit. Together these might amount to half of the value for duty so the 25% becomes only 12.5% added to the retain price.
I am in Canada and things may differ in the US. However, when I first got into machine shop work there were significant Canadian duty of precision measuring equipment -- micrometers and such -- and no duty on things like farm equipment. Insofar as I know there has never been a Canadian manufacturer of micrometers but there were many local manufacturers of farm equipment. Rather the opposite of what one would expect!
I suppose that this will make a Haas more attractive.
"I suppose that this will make a Haas more attractive."
Haas was already attractive. I doubt someone with a budget of $15k (a Tormach customer) will go "Oh well, I guess I'll spend $30k instead. Plus a whole lot more for every add-on. Also, I noticed that there was already a 4.4% tariff in place, so this would be a 20% jump.
