    Engraving Numbers

Any help/suggestions on how to program number engraving?

Im guessing it will be a manual program.

Would be interested to know if numbers can be programmed using an endmill tool suitable.

    Numbers in question would be:
    • 0
    • 1
    • 2
    • 3

    Thanks in advance.

Create the text you want in any CAD or most CAM programs and just post process the text as normal G code. Most CAD or CAM programs have a text function that will generate any printable character. You could code it by hand also, but it's easier in software. You can use any suitable end mill or engraving bit depending on the size of the text.

    Hi Jim.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Unfortunately I do not have any CAD or CAM software.
I will have to try and find something to do this.

Thank you for your advice, much appreciated.

How do you normally program your machines? You could draw the numbers on graph paper and manually generate the G code from that.

End mill to use, depends on the size of the lettering.
I use 1/16-1/8- 3/16-1/4 inch down cut end mills.

    Re: Engraving Numbers

    Hi folks....

Programming is done in front of the machine.
    Mazatrol units or Manual units.
CAD or CAM is never used.

    We are Metric parameters.

Machine control is - Mazatrol Fusion 640M

Any ideas how i can program the following numbers using metric dimensions:-

    1
    2
    3

    Thanks in advance.

You could draw the numbers on graph paper and manually generate the G code from that. It's possible to generate the numbers with only G1 moves.
