    3.5 Spindle wire

What is the recommended shielded wire from the VFD to the spindle if I have a 3.5kw 220v? I think its 15amp?

I cant find sh@t on 3.5 spindle wiring.

    Thank you

Depending upon power factor and just looking at input power to the motor, current could easily range from 9 to12 amps. Plus we don’t know if the motor is rated for output power and thus the possibility of efficiency being a factor.

In any event the NEC requires all electrical motors to be rated with all the data you need. In this case you need the phase current value. It is likely well under 12 amps so 14 gage wire would do. If the current rating approaches 14 amp I’d upgrade to a 12 gage cable. A decent cable suitable for drag chain usage is a bit expensive but worth every penny.

By the way this assumes running a 3 phase cable to the motor from the VFD. A single phase run requires a 12 gage cable.

A VFD implies 3 phase wire to the motor.

Hmm I already posted this but it didn't take.

I need to figure out the VFD to spindle and to controller wiring.
How do I check ohms on the spindle? Its has 1-4 and a grd.
    VFD to spindle from UVW?
    Controller to VFD RST?
    Control has a 3 pin out 1=24v, 2=gnd, 3=0-10v?
Any insight would be great. I cant find the manuals for these anywhere.

    Thank you

You are getting a little carried away with your cable size, these quality cable that most are using 16gage is rated for 20Amps

No point in using 12gage if it won't fit in your plug post some photos of what your spindle or motor connection has, you can't just buy any sort of cable and expect it to work for you

Of cause it has to be shielded for this type of use what is the flex rate of the cable you have ordered this is important also if your spindle motor is mounted on a Z axes

So there is no movement with the cable, then you could of used a much cheaper alternative, it helps everyone if the poster gives all the information as to what they are doing type of motor / spindle VFD Etc

    Re: 3.5 Spindle wire

    Will do.

So for the WTF of the day I have....

    Probotix controller, nema34s 8 wire.

I wired these up parallel correctly per manu. and the controller would not respond, well move the motors. Mach said the motor was moving but nope.
Pro setup is Bipolar only from a email by the Co.

I did some juice chasing and it was at the drivers out when I jogged...so I descided to wire them series and they worked...???...

So the question is what is happening here. I was hoping to use max torque poss on the motors....soooo what am I not getting here.

Sorry about the dumb questions I had to walk away from this project 5 yrs ago...life.

Most likely a wiring issue. If they work when wired series, they should work when wired parallel.

Ah ya. The wiring diagram I got wasn't correct.... even had the motors number. Shes moving on 2 axis now. Still have to weld up Y mounts.

    thank guys
