16M, edit parameter for CRT from monochrome to color. How to test safely?

I would like to toggle this parameter as we monitor the output from the video cable with our scope but the concern is if I lose all visibility of the display, how would be be able to get back in to change the parameter back?

If the H freq changes when flipped to color, the OEM CRT may not work at all as they are tuned usually for a narrow freq range. If the H freq does not go up, I also could not plug in an LCD to see it either as the Hfreq is slightly lower than they can work with (thanks Fanuc).

Can you make up a cable with a 'Y" type splitter to go to a monitor at the same time? I have a plasma display and am thinking of doing something like that to switch to LCD and have both displays available until I get the kinks worked out on the LCD
