    Driver settings

    Dear all,
I have a DM542T driver and I am not sure about the settings to choose.
In the settings of microstepping is not explained how to set it with full step. I think to do it I have to put all the switches in ON position... do you confirm it?
Furthermore I am using a Nema23 that is rated at 2.8 Amps. I don't know if I have to set the driver for 2.8 Amps of peak current or of RMS current?

    Thanks

    Re: Driver settings

I just completed a small plasma table with the same component selection as yours. Page 7 in the manual linked below should answer your questions.

I had already read the manual, but both my questions are not solved there...

    Re: Driver settings

The most commonly used microstep settings are 1/8 or 1/10.
    Use the peak current.

Looks like the driver can't/shouldn't be used in full-step mode according to the settings table. Any reason you want to use full stepping?

I would prefer full step because it allow faster rotation and also more torque.

    Re: Driver settings

Only allows faster rotation if you're pulse-rate limited. Not likely at half-step. Shouldn't lose any torque either. You may need to experiment with current values (don't exceed the stepper rating in the RMS setting,) but you should be able to get as much torque with half/micro stepping as with full-stepping. You will need to keep the reduced idle current mode enabled.

    Re: Driver settings

I have done a test: I have put all the switches relative to the microstepping seeing in ON position, that is the only combination not present I the manual and like that the controller moves the mirror at full step... I don't think this should create any issue...
