CNC 3040 & Arduino CNC Shield?

I recently purchased a Chinese CNC 3040. All the documentation says it'll work with Windows using Mach3, however I do not have access to a windows machine.

My current plan is to build a control box using a switching power supply and an Arduino CNC shield v3.

I'm new to this forum, but I have noticed that there's an issue with replacing the spindle VFD. So, my initial plan is to run the spindle from the original controller with the manual spindle speed.

Any experience with such a setup? Any gotchas I should be looking for?

    Thanks.

I have actually done this, I actually did it a while ago but only got it set up today and I'm really pleased with the results. My spindle controller does not support pwm so for the moment I have to control it manually. However I found grbl very easy to set up.
