need manual for Dimter Opticut 104 (2002) model

    Hi,
The shop just bought a used model but without documentation it is hard to figure out the rs232 port and how to transfer cutlists.
Weinig wants US $450 for the manual.

I am hoping someone has the manual for the Dimter OptiCut 104 and would be willing to share.

    Thanks for any help,

Did that saw come with the PC computer or just the operator panel keypad?

That being the case, I don't think there is any way to generate files offline and load them to the machine. Weinig may have the software available, but it won't be cheap. If you have the software, there is a chance you can get it to work. It ran on a WinNT or XP computer. As I recall, the serial settings were 9600, N, 8, 1, using a null modem cable.

This machine was built about the same time I left Grecon-Dimter so I don't have the manual in my archives. I checked with another retired tech and he doesn't have a manual either.

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for looking.

Is the software you mention the "Mill Vision software"? I found some references to this but no screenshots or actual program.

i will try with serial cable. if the serial settings are different, i can adjust until they work.
Do you have any idea what data to send in what format?

Do you know if the printer was controlled through the same serial port?

if you have the manual for the one with PC, maybe it would have enough clues for me to have a start at sending lists.
Any other information or wisdom on this machine?

No, but Mill Vision will send cut lists I think. That is actually an aftermarket software that was written by a Grecon-Dimter tech. An interesting story there, that software was actually started in my home office back in the late 90's. It looks like it has evolved quite a bit over the years, and I don't know if Dan is still involved with it..

The data format is really the problem, you can probably get communication established, but if the format is not what the controller wants to see then it is just noise.

I think there was a separate serial port on the operator panel that sent the text string to the printer. Also the printer required a trigger signal from the machine controller to fire the printer at the correct time. I think the printer had its own encoder. It is almost 20 years ago that I was working with this stuff so It is a bit foggy.

I have no manuals for that machine at all. And I'm not sure that having a manual would be of much help in this regard, they really didn't get into the guts of the software. Mostly it was just an operator manual and electrical documentation. Too bad you didn't buy a prior generation machine, I have all of the documentation for those.

    Hi Jim,
Someone else is looking at the electrical and the manual might be relevant. It turns out the machine is 2001 if that changes anything.

It seems we are locked out of operator panel for many changes. What was the default passcode?
    Found the Password: ELBA

Sorry the 2001 year makes no difference. You have to go back to about 1999 and the 504 machines, pre CAN bus systems.

Try ESC 13 ENTER for the password, it was some combination like that. Understand I'm trying to remember almost 20 years ago and I'm 70 now What were we talking about?

    Hi Jim,
I found the password as ELBA.

Thanks for your help. I don't think i need anything else at the moment.

It seems like i will need to spend some time debuggging the serial connection and seeing what information i can get out /in .

I might have sourced the manual for the machine. if so i will post it here.

I thought ELBA was the old 304 password or I would have mentioned it. In that case, ODER may be a second level password also.

    Best of luck to you.
