Retro fitted dual ball screws to 6040?

Has anyone retro fitted a second ball screw to the gantry axis of their chinese 6040 CNC Router?
Not sure how involved it would be, or if it would be worth it?

    I am considering doing that.....maybe.
Would probably fit it under the bed, like the original and have them as far apart as possible.
That would keep them cleaner but would make tuning the installs more difficult.

Interested in what others have done.

If I was going to do it I would put them at the sides. This would give you the means to properly support your bed from the bottom.

    Thats a good point Mmpie.
I guess no one has attempted this and I think I know why.

I just checked my machine more closely, and it seems I have unsupported round rails for the X and Z axis, which would defeat the effort required th fit dual ball screws tot he Y axis......
I was looking at bed support as well.

I guess I will leave it as it is, and when time, space and funds allow it, will purchase a better machine with all thos features.
a CNCRouterparts kits is looking the goods at the moment.

    As you were....

Well as you already have a machine, you have all the tools needed to build your own/upgrade parts of yours as budget allows. Buy beefier extrusions, hiwin rails, you can machine all the end plates etc.

    Yes, thats true.....

The design process worries me a bit..
It would seem to involve some trial and error and redesigning of parts to make other parts work properly....

Not sure I have the patience to design a CNC Router from scratch. I think it would take a long time to get all the bugs out.

The most obvious question for me, is do you design the frame dimensions to match the ballscrews lengths available?
I'd assume so, as its easier to cut extrusion to size than get custom ball screws manufactured....

Other option is to use someones else design.

Getting all the parts sqquare and aligned scares me too...lol
